In vervolg op mijn vorige blog heb ik een belangrijke aankondiging: na anderhalf jaar als vrijwilliger voor Eindhoven Museum te hebben gewerkt, mocht ik mij in maart 2024 officieel aansluiten bij het collectieteam als collectiebeheerder!

Als collectiebeheerder voer ik veel praktijkgerichte en dagelijkse taken uit binnen de collectie. Ik zorg ervoor dat onze collectiestukken goed worden bewaard en gemonitord. Dit doe ik niet alleen, maar met de hulp van vrijwilligers. Verder regel ik het uitlenen van collectiemateriaal aan andere musea en assisteer ik bij collectieonderzoek.

Zoals je wel kunt zien is mijn Nederlands flink verbeterd sinds mijn vorige blog. Natuurlijk heb ik meer Nederlandse lessen gehad en mijn vrijwilligerswerk heeft er ook erg bij geholpen. Ik kan met trots zeggen dat ik veel van mijn werk nu in het Nederlands doe!

Tot slot heeft mijn nieuwe rol me geholpen om me nog meer thuis te voelen. Doordat ik nauwer met de collectie in aanraking kom, is mijn kennis van Eindhoven gegroeid. Hierdoor is ook mijn gevoel van 'erbij horen' groter geworden.

En dit is waarom ik van musea houd: de mogelijkheid om via verhalen en objecten mensen te verbinden met andere culturen en hun omgeving. Ik hoop dat mijn nieuwe rol binnen Eindhoven Museum kan bijdragen aan deze verbinding!

As a follow-up to my previous blog, I have a big announcement. After a year and a half of volunteering, I was able to officially join the collections team as the collections manager!

I am engaging more in the work I love. As the collections manager I do many of the hands-on and day-to-day tasks of the collection. I ensure that our collection materials are properly stored and monitored. I also administer loans to other museums as well as assist with collection research. This fits right in with my background and previous experience.

As you can also see above, I have improved my Dutch since my last blog. Of course, since then I have had more Dutch courses and volunteering also helped a lot. I am proud to say that I do a lot of my work in Dutch!

Finally, my new role has helped me further to settle in. As my knowledge of the city has grown, so has my sense of belonging. Working more closely with the collection has allowed this.

And this is what I love about museums: their ability to connect people to other cultures and their surroundings through stories and objects. My hope is that I will be able to contribute to these connections through my new role here.
